Thanisandra residents bring pipes to clear water on road

Fed up of false promises by civic officials

Fed up with false promises from civic officials, residents of Defence Layout on Thanisandra Main Road decided to take matters in their own hands. They bought pipes to reroute water as they were facing severe water logging every monsoon for several years.

"The main issue is that the sewage system is not proper. Every time we complain to civic officials, we are told that the work will be done when they get funds. In 10 years, no repair has been carried out," said Imtiyaz Ahmed, a resident.

Eventually, residents collected money and bought eight pipes to clear the area of water. Mr. Ahmed says that the solution is only temporary, as they do not have the technical know-how to prevent water-logging.

BBMP engineer Shridhar visited the area on Tuesday and spoke to residents. "The layout is in a low-lying area, which is why it is getting flooded. We had desilted the nearby drain, but looks like it will need to be widened," he said. He did not give a definite timeline for fixing the problem.
