On a day when turbulence-hit SpiceJet announced resumption of “normal operations”, Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday saw 21 arrivals and 20 departures. But, at least four arrivals and departures each were reportedly cancelled.
The low-cost airline, in an official statement, said it would operate all 230 scheduled flights on Thursday and apologised for the disruptions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“SpiceJet is also pleased to announce that it is now able to take bookings through the end of the current schedule, which is March 28, 2015. The temporary restriction of 30 days that was imposed on December 5 has been relaxed by the DGCA,” the media statement said.
Passengers waryHowever, this was not assuring enough for SpiceJet customers. There were several instances of passengers cancelling their tickets, anticipating disruption in services, despite losing money and paying much more on other flights.
Anirudh Tagat, a researcher, was to travel to Bengaluru from Mumbai on December 24. Wary after reading about the spate of cancellations over the last few days, he cancelled his ticket on Thursday morning. “I had booked through a travel portal over a month ago and paid Rs. 6,500. I will be losing Rs. 3,000 and the Air India ticket that I booked cost me Rs. 10,000. But I would rather be safe than sorry,” he said.
