Shivarama Reddy, who has been arrested on the charge of raping a software engineer in Electronic City, had been arrested earlier for molesting four girls after barging into a paying guest accommodation in Kundalahalli in Mahadevapura last year.

He had also tried to rob them at knife point. However, the victims raised an alarm, following which Reddy jumped from the fifth floor. He fell on a tree and broke his leg. Neighbours and passers-by heard the screams. They caught Reddy and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

The Mahadevapura police had charged him with attempt at robbery and outraging the modesty of women and remanded him in judicial custody. Reddy managed to get out on bail and continue his nefarious activities in the southeastern parts of the city, a senior police officer said.
