Heavy rain accompanied by hailstones and lightning lashed the city on Sunday. Rain water entered many houses in several low-lying areas causing inconvenience to scores of citizens. Traffic movement was also affected as motorists had to wade their way through inundated streets.
The city received 32.8 mm rainfall, while HAL Airport area recorded 25.2 mm rain at 11.30 p.m.
S.M. Metri, in-charge Director, Meteorological Department, Karnataka, said that Sunday’s rain was due to an increase in temperature in the recent past leading a low pressure area causing thundershowers in the city. More rain is likely to lash the city in the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Water enters houses
Water seeped into some houses on 7th Main Road in Indiranagar, R.R. Nagara, Kogilu Cross, Yelahanka, Bagalakunte, Prakrutinagar, Vijayendranagar, Nandini Layout and D.J. Halli.
Leelavathi Vasudev, resident of R.R. Nagar, spent several hours clearing rain water from her living room and kitchen. “Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board had replaced the drainage pipes in the area but the work was not completed, and that has led to this situation,” she complained.
Meanwhile, reports that trees had fallen came from Kengeri, Kengeri Upanagara, Sanjaynagar, Basaveshwarnagar 8th Main Road and Jnana Bharathi First Block.
