The long-awaited Property Identification (PID) number, which is a seven-digit geo-referenced number for properties, will be launched by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in the first week of February.

According to BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, the project has been developed by the Information Technology cell of the civic body. “We have sought time from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for its inauguration in the first week of February. Once it is launched, there will be an app on which property owners can key in their present PID numbers to get the new geo-referenced number," he added.

Officials hope to increase tax compliance with the implementation of this system as the PID numbers will carry references of encumbrance certificates, khata and tax receipts.
