Pillion rider dies, drunk driver arrested

A 21-year-old call centre employee was killed and her friend injured when the rider lost control and slipped on the road in Banasawadi on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Vinitha Vishal, was riding pillion with her friend Ashok (24), who was drunk and riding in rash and negligent manner. The duo was not wearing helmet, the police said.

According to the police, they were returning home from work and riding towards T.C. Palya. The duo were near the Horamavu flyover when Ashok lost control of the bike.

Passers-by rushed to their help and shifted them to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors declared Vinitha brought dead.

The Banasawadi police found that Ashok was drunk beyond permissible limits. He was arrested on Wednesday on charges of death due to negligence, riding without helmet, rash and negligence and drunk driving and remanded to judicial custody.
