An employee of a city-based private firm heading towards Kempegowda International Airport was robbed by the driver of the cab, which he had booked to reach the airport, on Sunday.

The victim Arpith Gandhi, a native of Nagpur and settled in Hebbal here with his family, was heading to take a flight to Mumbai. Mr. Gandhi reportedly booked the cab and got into it at around 5 a.m.

The cab driver changed the route towards Yelahanka railway track road, police said. When questioned, the cab driver informed Mr. Gandhi that he had to fill fuel. However, Mr. Gandhi objected citing that he was getting delayed and asked the driver to cancel the trip and tried to get down, police added.

Police said that the cab driver demanded ₹1,000 as fare. When Mr. Gandhi, who was in a hurry, pulled out his wallet to give the money, the driver snatched the wallet and pushed him on the ground before speeding away, police said.

Mr. Gandhi immediately alerted the control room and later took another cab to reach the airport on time.

Yelahanka police, based on the complaint, have taken up a case of robbery and efforts are on to trace the driver. “We have some clues about the driver. He will be nabbed soon,” a senior police officer said.
