The management of Mysore Paper Mills (MPM) Ltd., a public sector unit at Bhadravati, has constituted an internal committee to probe into the fire accident that took place in its first and second paper production units on Friday night.
It may be mentioned here that machines and volumes of paper stored at the first and second production units were reduced to ash owing to the fire mishap. An electric short circuit was said to be the reason for the mishap. According to preliminary estimate, the total loss suffered by the firm due to the fire mishap was said to be around Rs. 50 lakh.
Following this, the management has formed a committee comprising Suresh Kumar, Bhaskar, both serving as assistant general managers, and Senior Manager Karunakar Udupa to probe into the fire accident. The committee has been directed to probe into the reasons responsible for the accident and to recommend measures to be taken to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future. The management has also issued show cause notices to senior officials of the first and second paper production units, including engineers Satyaprakash, Srinath and Vivekananda.
Based on a complaint lodged by the management with the Paper Town police station in Bhadravati, a case has been registered. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Koushalendra Kumar on Sunday visited the accident spots.
