In order to ensure a hassle-free complaint registration process, the city police started an online service for reporting lost valuables. The time gap between losing valuables, like documents, and realising the loss makes it difficult for the aggrieved person to complain to the particular jurisdictional police station to get the acknowledgement required to get replacement for the documents.

For this reason, an aggrieved person can log into the Bangalore city police website (http://www.bcp.gov.in), click on the report lost item icon and upload the details. The acknowledgement for the complaint could be downloaded and a copy would be sent to the email id provided by the complainant. Each acknowledgement has a unique number.

“This tool is only for reporting lost electronic items, such as mobiles and laptops, provided they are lost and not stolen. The mechanism is not for emergency responses such as crime,” Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi said .
