A day after the Karnataka High Court adjourned further hearing of a plea by controversial godman Nithyananda for release on bail, another petition by him, this time for quashing proceedings, came up for hearing.
Nithyananda had moved the High Court for quashing first information report (FIR) and proceedings against him initiated by the Bidadi police. He said a case against him was first registered in a Chennai police station by his former car driver Lenin. The case was transferred to Bidadi.
Nithyananda argued that the Bidadi police had mechanically translated the contents of the FIR lodged in Chennai and that there is no independent investigation. Moreover, there is no case against him and all the charges are false and fabricated with a view to malign him.
Justice Arali Nagaraj adjourned further hearing of the petition to June 24.
Meanwhile, a Ramanagaram court on Wednesday extended judicial custody of Nithyananda till June 23.
