‘More trouble for KV principal’

Sources said this on the basis of the report of an internal inquiry

After a student claimed that a Kendriya Vidyalaya principal was sexually harassing her, an internal inquiry report by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has more students and teachers recollecting their experiences with the principal that amounts to sexual harassment.

During the internal inquiry, the Sangathan spoke to 31 teachers and students. All except one have testified and given statements that have indicated that the now suspended principal, Kumar Thakur, sexually harassed them, sources said, adding that these have been documented in the preliminary report. Even teachers have alleged that he sexually harassed them, the sources said.

However, so far a formal police complaint has been lodged only for sexually harassing one student. Sources in KVS said that after the examination ends, a detailed inquiry would be conducted.

The case came to light in January after the ChildLine was tipped off that Mr. Thakur was sexually harassing students. He was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and arrested. He was released on bail.

Police sources said that they had completed their inquiry and would file a charge sheet soon.

Kripa Alva, Chairperson of Karnataka Commission for Protection of Child Rights, said that they are pursuing the case seriously and would try for addition of more stringent sections in the charge sheet.
