The Indian Premier League (IPL) match scheduled on May 4 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here is likely to be postponed, with the city police expressing their inability to provide security cover since Assembly elections will be held on May 5.
“The schedule could create a law and order situation, since we can not deny security cover for any event. At the same time we need maximum force deployment for the elections. Hence, we have requested the BCCI and IPL authorities to postpone the match,” City Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said.
According to IPL officials, they are trying to rework the schedule and push the May 4 match to another day.
Meanwhile, a series of review meetings are being held with officials of various departments to chalk out foolproof security for the Assembly polls.
Regular meetings are being held with officials of the Revenue and Excise departments and the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to discuss security strategies. Apart from this, meetings are also being held with senior officers of all the seven divisions to discuss measures to prevent untoward incidents during polling.
