Mariam Kouser, the three-year-old who suffered brain damage due to alleged medical negligence in December last year, has been hospitalised after experiencing respiratory problems.
Sources said that the child, who was discharged from hospital this August-end, was initially taken to Manipal Hospital on Old Airport Road on Saturday morning from where she was referred to Dr. Malathi Manipal Hospital in Jayanagar.
S. Murali, Chief of Clinical Services at Manipal Hospital, told The Hindu that Mariam was brought with a severe respiratory tract infection. “Her condition is stable as of now. However, she may need a few days of hospitalisation,” he said.
The child had met with an accident on December 13 in which her left elbow was fractured. She was operated upon at the State-run Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic (SGITO) on December 16 after which she went into coma. A committee that probed the case had found negligence by the doctors.
