Citizens, who hoped to regularise their illegal constructions under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme, may have to wait longer.

Though the urban local bodies were to begin issuing and accepting applications for regularisation of certain types of unauthorised developments and constructions from March 23, senior officials in the Urban Development Department conceded that the rules were yet to be finalised.

“We are in the process of finalising the rules, after which they will be notified,” the official said and added that the government, in fact, feared that the scheme would be stayed by the High Court of Karnataka.

On Thursday, the court restrained the government from processing applications received under the scheme till April 15.

Meanwhile, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is yet to figure out the nitty-gritties of issuing the applications.

A senior BBMP official told The Hindu that the civic body was banking on the government to prepare the FAQ (frequently asked questions), which will help citizens who wish to apply for regularisation under the scheme.

The BBMP, the official said, was yet to decide on issuing applications and the banks to tie-up with for payment of fees. “We are yet to decide on how many centres should issue applications and where it should be submitted. The tie-up with banks will be decided based on BBMP’s convenience, as we have not received any specific instructions from the government,” the official said. The official added that a meeting would be conducted again on Friday to iron out all details.

“We will be ready to issue the applications from March 23,” the official claimed.
