Land worth Rs. 2,000 cr. being recovered in city

Published - April 17, 2015 12:56 pm IST - Bengaluru:

A legitimate khata issued by the BBMP does not necessarily mean that the land on which your house stands is your own. That is what several residents of Sarakki Layout in J.P. Nagar VII Phase have found out the hard way.

On Thursday, as demolition of permanent structures on a sprawling parcel of land abutting Sarakki lake commenced, it included those with proper documents issued by the civic agency. Along with them, ironically, were structures and roads built by the BBMP too, all of which were on the lakebed. In one of the biggest clearances of encroachments in the city, action to reclaim 33 acres and 15 guntas, estimated to be worth over Rs. 2,000 crore in the open market, has commenced.
