Karnad fractures hand during shoot

Noted actor, playwright and Jnanpith recipient Girish Karnad broke his left hand during a Kannada film shooting here on Tuesday.

According to sources, the incident occurred when he was shooting for Pora, directed by Amogh alias Janardhan at a choultry in Yelahanka.

A member of the film unit told The Hindu that Mr. Karnad was shooting for a rain-effect scene and he fell down while climbing down the stairs. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Koramangala and is recovering.

The film was shot for 20 days in the United States and is based on real-life incidents. Mr. Karnad, Raju Thalikote, Tabla Naani, Lucky Shanker, Sudharani, T.S. Nagabharna, Sumithra and others are part of the cast. Mr. Karnad is essaying the role of a Home Minister and father of NRI actor Vylari, who is from Washington.
