The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Saturday announced that it would build a skywalk at the busy Kempapura junction in Hebbal where two persons were killed in a gruesome accident on Thursday.

The skywalk will have lifts on either side. The plan is to begin construction on March 16.

The announcement was made at the review meeting chaired by city in-charge Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Dinesh Gundu Rao. The traffic police and BBMP officials attended the meeting.

Traffic police claimed that the number of accidents at the junction had increased due to a lack of pedestrian facilities.

Though there is a pelican light at the junction, very few vehicles stop to allow pedestrians to cross the road. Following the accident on Thursday, students, local residents and several organisations staged a protest demanding better pedestrian facilities.
