The Mahadevapura police have arrested two security guards of Windmills apartment in Whitefield here for allegedly murdering 53-year-old advocate Amardeep Kainth, a resident of the apartment block.
The accused, Roopam Bora (24), and his associate, Sanjay Hazarika (21), both from Golghat district of Assam, joined the security agency only last month.
They had observed Amardeep Kainth staying alone in the apartment on third floor of the building and hatched a plan to kill him and rob him of his valuables to become rich overnight, according to the police.
The police said that they gained entry to the house with duplicate keys late in the night, hit Amardeep Kainth with a bronze statue from the showcase and stabbed him to death even as Amardeep Kainth tried to resist them.
They later ransacked the house while looking for valuables. But, they managed to get no more than Rs. 1,100 in cash and a few credit and debit cards, the police said.
The accused escaped with the cash, the credit and debit cards and Amardeep Kainth’s mobile phone valued at Rs. 15,000.
The accused then boarded a train to Kolkata without ticket as they did not have money. By the time, the Railway Vigilance caught them for ticketless travel, they reached Howrah Station. They paid fine and were waiting to board a train for home when the Mahadevapura police arrested them.
The accused confessed that they had murdered Kainth, the police said. The police have recovered Rs. 320 of the Rs. 1,100 the two had taken from Amardeep Kainth, the mobile phone, the credit and debit cards from them.
