Former chief secretary Kaushik Mukherjee's house in HSR Layout was burgled on Saturday. Jewellery and valuables worth around ₹25 lakh were stolen.

Mukherjee and his wife had left for their friend's house at 11 a.m. They discovered the burglary on their return around 11 p.m.

Police sources said that burglars jumped over the compound wall from behind the house, broke a window glass after which they opened the latch of the back door and entered the house.

Mr. Mukherjee, in his complaint to HSR Layout police, said six watches, 20 gold earrings, six gold bangles, three diamond ear rings, a diamond ring and 10 pens, worth around ₹25 lakh were stolen.

When contacted, Mr. Mukherjee refused to comment on the issue.

Police sources said that the burglary comes days after a burglary in the house of a retired IPS officer M.V. Murthy on June 11 in the same area.

“We are analysing CCTV footage of the area from June 10 to June 16. Three men who were seen moving around suspiciously in the area during this period have been detained and are being questioned,” a senior police officer said.
