Plans to introduce high-speed or semi high-speed rail link between Bengaluru and Mysuru is unlikely to kick-off any time soon despite Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu recently promising to examine the possibility.

On Wednesday, General Manager, South Western Railway, P.K. Saxena said at present, trains between the two cities are operating at a speed of 105 km/hr. In some sections, the Railways is trying to push this to 120 kmph.

“The Minister has shared a long-term vision, which we are trying to implement. However, beyond 120 kmph, we will need more inputs. We will be able to achieve these speeds in a phased manner. Specifics have not been included in the pink book,” Mr. Saxena said.

Pink Book

The Pink Book, usually released with the Union Budget, contains details of all new projects announced.

Suburban rail

The Railways is in talks with the State government with regard to the suburban rail project for the city, which was announced by the Minister in this year’s budget.
