A fire broke out on Saturday evening at a pub on the first floor of a multi-storey building on Church Street around 8 p.m. while renovation work was being going out in a pub.

Two fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

According to fire officials, the mishap occurred when labourers were putting up the name board of ‘Russh’ pub on the building. A worker, Veerendra, was reportedly welding the board when the foam packed inside caught fire due to the sparks from the welding machine.

The fire destroyed parts of the yet-to-be-opened pub. According to the staff, the contractor, Swamy, fled from the spot. Cubbon Park police have registered a case against the owner of the pub for not taking sufficient precautions.
