If you want to shake a leg with the world’s best Mambo King Eddie Torres of New York right here in Bengaluru and even pick up the finer gradations of his American approaches to the Latin dance forms, head to the Asia Open Championships of India International Dance Congress (IIDC).
The four-day event, being held at Clarks Exotica Resort, Swiss Town, began on Thursday.
The fifth edition of the annual event, put together by John Anthony of Latino Rhythms Dance Academy (LRDA), has brought in 200 participants from South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Sweden, Australia, West Asia and Vietnam.
Overall, nearly 2,000 people will be part of the four-day fest that features 100 shows and competitions in 14 categories.
“This year, we have doubled just about every thing we have on offer, be it participants, dance shows or workshops with the ‘who’s who’ of the world dance forms,” says John Anthony.
The Dance Congress features Salsa, Bachata, Jive, Bollywood, Hip-hop, Mambo, Kizomba, Rumba, Zouk, Contemporary and Belly Dance.
IIDC, rated as one of the Top 5 Dance Fests, is a gateway to foreign shores.
“The winners not just get passes to upcoming Salsa fests in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Croatia, Istanbul, Mexico and Canada, but qualify for the World Salsa Summit at Miami in Florida,” Mr. Anthony said.
