Dalit youth’s suicide: KDSS seeks action against police officer

The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (KDSS) has demanded suspension of Vemgal police station sub-inspector Laskhminarayan in connection with the suicide of Dalit youth Manjunath.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the outfit alleged that Mr. Lakshminarayan abetted the death of Manjunath. The 25-year-old hanged himself at his residence in Narasapur after returning from a periodic interrogation at Vemagal station on August 1.

The organisation also criticised the police for filing cases against hundred-odd people in the backdrop of the protest at a police outpost in Narasapur following the death of Manjunath. The police have registered cases for rioting and ransacking. “The cases filed should be withdrawn”, State organising convener of KDSS Sulikunte Ramesh said.
