Have you lost your peace of mind due to the performance of the Indian cricket team in the current Test series in Australia? Then here is something to divert your mind.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Spurthi Mahila Samaja and ninth anniversary of Keerthi Mahila Samaja, a grandmothers’ and mothers’ cricket match is being organised on Saturday at 10 a.m. The event will be held at the Kohinoor Grounds, near Ramakrishna ashrama in Basavanagudi.

Spurthi Mahila Samaja and Keerthi Mahila Samaja president R. Chudamani Ramachandra on Tuesday said that women aged between 60 and 80 years will take part in the grandmothers’ team, while those aged between 30 and 50 years will be part of the mothers’ team. The mothers’ teams from Spurthi Mahila Samaja and Keerthi Mahala Samaja will play against each other in a 16-over match. Grannies from Spurthi and Keerthi will play each other in a 12-over match.

Ms. Ramachandra said, “For the past month-and-a-half, we have been practicing daily with full enthusiasm. All grannies and mothers are eagerly waiting for December 27.”

Earlier in 2008, the Samaja had organised a similar event, which became a part of the Limca Book of Records. Now, the mothers and grannies are aiming for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records, Ms. Ramachandra said proudly. Winners would get the Spurthi Cup.
