Contract pourakarmikas seek timely payment of wages

Contract pourakarmikas engaged by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) staged a protest here on Friday demanding timely payment of wages and Employee State Insurance and Provident Fund benefits. It was organised by the Karnataka State City Corporation, City Municipal Council, and Town Municipal Council Pourakarmikas’ Association.

The association alleged that a contractor had not given them the details of ESI and PF account though Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 was being deducted from their salaries every month. They alleged that BBMP was not providing them brooms and that they were forced to buy them on their own. Association general secretary A. Jeyerem handed over a memorandum to BBMP Commissioner M. Lakshminarayana.
