Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy’s visit to Vishwabarati Housing Cooperative Layout last Friday to inspect the poor quality of work and his call for a government takeover of the layout made headlines in a cross section of publications.

In an ironic twist, it has now emerged that Mr. Murthy’s son and brother were booked by the local police while attempting to grab land in the same layout more than a week ago.

Narendra Babu, who filed the complaint of land grab with the Girinagar police alleged that the son and brother of the Mayor demolished the compound claiming that the property belonged to them, and threatened him with dire consequences.

Refuting the allegation, Mr. Murthy said that he did not know Narendra Babu. “I am sure that he could not even recognise my brother and son and he is dragging us into the issue to take undue advantage.” Let the law take its own course, he added.
