A Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus driver has been booked for making obscene comments and lewd gestures at a 29-year-old woman.
Narrating her ordeal to The Hindu , the victim said that the incident took place on Monday when she was driving from Indiranagar to her house in Sadanand Nagar.
“I was on Swami Vivekananda Road (Old Madras Road) when a BMTC bus swerved towards the left suddenly. The bus barely missed my car by inches. When I asked him about it at the traffic signal, he made lewd gestures and sexual innuendoes. Even the conductor on the bus was laughing at the obscenity of the comments,” she said, adding that the experience left her in tears. The ordeal didn’t stop there. On Tuesday, when the woman went to the Indiranagar police station, she was allegedly asked to go to Byappanahalli police station instead – which is in violation of a Supreme Court guideline mandating that jurisdiction cannot come in the way of registering a police complaint.
However, on Tuesday Byappanahalli police booked the driver under Section 354a (unwelcome sexual advances) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.
