Accusing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of violating the model code of conduct that has been in force ahead of the elections to the Legislative Council, by launching the Hosa Belaku scheme of distributing LED bulbs, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday petitioned the Election Commission of India seeking action against him. In the petition, the BJP maintained that Hosa Belaku was a Central scheme that had been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi 11 months ago. But, Mr. Siddaramaiah had rechristened it under a different name, after the declaration of elections, for electoral gain.

But, speaking to reporters, Mr. Siddaramaiah said there was no violation of code of conduct as the government had taken permission from the EC to organise the programme.
