Great reach: Bhavan’s Journal has nearly 8 lakh readers

The popular journal of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) Bhavan’s Journal , which reaches nearly 8 lakh member-readers across the country, will soon be available in digital format.

Not just the upcoming issues, but the entire bi-monthly journal tracing its 62 years of existence, with 1,440 issues covering 1,50,000 pages, will be available digital format article by article. The work related to digitisation of the journal, undertaken by the Mysuru Kendra of the BVB in association with other firms, is nearing completion at Srirangapatna, said H.N. Suresh, director, BVB, Bengaluru.

Bhavan's Journal was launched by Kulapati K.M. Munshi, founder of the BVB, on August 15, 1954, as Bhavan’s Book University Journal , and it got its present name the next year.

“It is estimated that there will be 29,209 articles by 6,031 authors in all, and all of them will be available online,” said Mr. Suresh. The articles in the Bhavan’s Journal , which have covered every aspect of life, have been written by well-known personalities and writers, including C. Rajagopalachari, K.M. Munshi, S. Radhakrishnan, Sir M. Visvesvaraya, and Nani Palkhivala.

“There were nearly 500 articles that ran into a series for a long time. Bhavan’s Journal has also brought out articles on personalities of the present generation such as Sachin Tendulkar,” said Mr. Suresh.
