North Indian cuisine is often defined by the combinations and varieties of kebabs and tandoori delicacies it plates up. Tandoori Hippie, situated on Koramangala Inner Ring Road, by its very name promises a delightful ‘tandoori night' that one has been longing for right through the week.
The ambience is one that fuses contemporary design with a rustic old- world look, yet somehow manages to resemble a typical dhaba.
“The idea behind the design was a deliberate effort to encourage customers to let their hair down even though they are among dim, lamp-lit settings. We want the experience to be one of ‘fun dining' rather than ‘fine dining',” explains Rahul Uppal, the owner. He tags on “don't worry, be hippie at Tandoori Hippie!”
Sticking purely to north Indian fare, the restaurant offers everything from samosas, chaats to roti, naan and various vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
The cool fruit sherbats go well with the paneer pudina tikka, a perfect way to begin your meal. Progress into the main course with one of the rice items — vegetable pulao with a curry of your choice.
Festival
Tandoori Hippie is holding a 15-day unlimited kebab festival till November 27. So get lucky enough to feast on some of the chef's heavily guarded recipes for kebabs.
On the menu are also vegetarian kebabs — the potato tandoor is mild and the chutney accompanying it balances the flavour. The word ‘unlimited' allows you to indulge yourself. Among the non-vegetarian kebabs, the lamb tandoor deserves a mention.
Other unique delicacies are the dal makhni pizza and the butter chicken pizza.
There is a lunch buffet (with drinks). The special festival prices range from Rs. 249 plus tax Monday to Thursday to Rs. 349 on Fridays.
