Kamakshipalya police arrested Venkatesh (23) on the charge of rape after a garment factory employee complained that after promising to marry her, he had taken her to his native place in Hiriyur and raped her.

The police said that Venkatesh, who works for a bakery in K.R. Puram, had befriended the victim and later proposed to her.

On May 8, he took her to Hiriyur on the pretext of marrying her and stayed in a lodge where he allegedly raped her.

He then took her to the bus stand and disappeared from there on the pretext of getting his mobile phone currency recharged.

After waiting for a long time, the victim tried to call him on his phone but it was not reachable. She returned to Bangalore and filed a complaint with the Kamakshipalya police who tracked him down in his native place.

Venkatesh was remanded in judicial custody.
