The State government has released Rs. 1,663 crore to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for several infrastructure projects.
Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy told journalists in Bangalore on Saturday that of this, Rs. 618 crore would be spent on five-signal free corridors, Rs. 200 crore each for development of seven roads under TenderSure, nine multi-storeyed parking complexes and solid waste management projects, Rs. 195 crore on five grade separators, Rs. 140 crore on development and asphalting of 86 roads, Rs. 60 crore on widening of 13 roads in newly added areas and Rs. 50 crore on rejuvenation of 20 lakes.
Current fiscal year
The BBMP will take up all these projects in the current fiscal year and hopes to complete the tender process for the five signal-free corridors by December-end and issue work orders by January 2013. Of the 45 roads to be developed under TenderSure, it will improve seven roads in the first phase. Of the five grade separators, the BBMP had already prepared the detailed project reports (DPRs) for the two flyovers proposed at the Chord Road–Rajajinagar 10th Cross junction and Shivananda Circle, and the underpass at Magadi Road–Siddaiah Puranik Road junction. The tenders for the underpass at Chord Road–Manjunathnagar junction had been floated.
Lake rejuvenation
Mr. Murthy said the DPR for rejuvenation of 11 lakes had been submitted to the Lake Development Authority. Rejuvenation of four lakes was in progress, while the plan for the remaining five would be prepared soon.
The Bangalore City Connect Foundation had already submitted the project report for seven roads to be developed under TenderSure. Potholes would be filled within the deadline while tenders for widening of 11 roads in newly added areas had already been floated. The tenders for the development and asphalting of 81 arterial and sub-arterial roads had also been floated.
Under solid waste management, segregation and dry waste collection centres would be set up in all wards, besides 16 bio-methanisation plants. Basic facilities in areas surrounding landfills and waste processing units would be provided.
