Two passengers on board an Air Asia flight from Guwahati to Bengaluru were detained by the airport police on Sunday for creating a commotion and harassing passengers and the crew.

The duo were returning home from Guwahati after attending a wedding. According to Air Asia, they allegedly disturbed fellow passengers and the crew with their loud and uncouth behaviour. They are said to have refused to accept food that was served to them and demanded a menu card. This led to an altercation during which they allegedly used foul language at the crew.

The crew managed to control the situation. Once the plane landed in Bengaluru, the captain and the crew gave their feedback to the ground staff and the police were contacted. The duo were detained and produced before a magistrate. They were let off with a fine.

“It is imperative that passengers understand that flying is a ‘respectable shared experience’ that cannot be assumed otherwise. Any anti-social behaviour by passengers can have unpleasant consequences for the safety, security and comfort of all on board,” the airline said in a statement.
