Bengaluru: Students of a private degree college staged a protest on Monday after a faculty member allegedly hit a student on the head during the assembly on Saturday for tardiness.

According to the protesters, Krishna Yadav, a final-year student of BES College of Education in Jayanagar, was 10 minutes late for the assembly. He was allegedly hit by one of the HoDs.

Krishna said, “I came 10 minutes late due to some personal problem at home. I was hit in front of everybody. It was disappointing to see lecturers resorting to such measures.”

A second-year B.Com student, who was at the protest, said, “We wanted to show solidarity with him as we were disappointed with the manner in which the college has reacted.”

However, the principal, C.G. Parameshwaraiah, denied that such an incident even took place. He said that the protest was due to the introduction of a prayer followed by the national anthem about a fortnight ago. “We are attempting to discipline students by making them stand in line if they come late for the assembly. But students objected to this and protested. No faculty member slapped a student,” he said.
