The Centre has given an assurance of funding the Namma Metro line that connects the city with Kempegowda International Airport and the cost will be shared on equal basis.
The total cost of the project has been estimated at Rs. 6,000 crore.
Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J. George and Union Minister of State for Aviation Jayant Sinha on Friday held a meeting and discussed various routes that connect the city with KIA.
Mr. George told presspersons that nine alternative routes where the Namma Metro line can connect the city with KIA have been identified by RITES Ltd, an engineering consultancy company. The shortest one is the 25.9 km stretch from Nagawara via Kannur and Bagaluru, which could take four years for completion.
After finalising a route, a proposal seeking the Centre’s funding would be submitted to the Union Aviation Ministry. The route would be finalised after holding consultations with all stakeholders, he said.
The Centre has also agreed to fund the sub-urban railway of the city, Mr. George said.
