The family of a 45-year-old man, who allegedly killed himself in his house at Amruthahalli on Thursday morning, are blaming the local councillor.

Relatives of the deceased, Shankarappa, claimed that he was being harassed by the councillor over an alleged house theft, which took place a month ago.

According to the police, a 25-year-old maid Nalini, who worked in the councillor’s house, began stealing his wife’s jewellery and pledged them with Shankarappa and his wife Saraswathi.

When the councillor learnt that Nalini was stealing from his house, he promised not to file a police complaint if she returned the gold. The maid approached Shankarappa. But, he allegedly refused to return the jewellery until she repaid the loan she had taken from him.

The police have taken up a case of unnatural death.
