The district principal and sessions court granted bail to 36 Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists on Monday. The activists were were arrested for staging demonstration during Republic Day function.
Subsequently they have been released from the jail. Vedike activists raised slogans in support of several demands, including permanent irrigation project and jobs for Kannadigas in industries, when health and Family Welfare Minister and district in-charge K.R. Rameshkumar began speech after unfurling the national flag at Sir. M. Visveswaraya District Stadium.
Of the protesting activists 36 were arrested on charges of disturbing the national festival celebrations.
Vedike State president K. Narayanagowda has warned a state-wide agitation if the functionaries were not released.
CPI (M) and Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha also have condemned the arrests terming the police action undemocratic.
