1,800 police personnel to man VHP meet

Apart from city police, paramilitary forces have also been deployed

As part of elaborate security arrangements, the city police have deployed around 1,800 police personnel to ensure law and order during the Virat Hindu Sammelan to be held at the National College grounds in Basavanagudi on Sunday.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Alok Kumar, who is supervising the security arrangements, said apart from the strong force of city police, paramilitary forces, including Rapid Action Force and Quick Response Teams contingents have also been pressed into service.

Divisional police officials have been instructed to intensify patrolling in sensitive areas which ‘falls under their jurisdiction. Police personnel put on security will be equipped with video-cameras to record any eventuality. Flag marches were conducted on Mysore Road and other sensitive parts of the city. On Saturday morning, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia landed in Kempegowda International Airport and then left for Hosur. He had sought transit permission on the condition that he would not meet anyone or speak in public.
