A 17-year-old boy drowned in a pond at Bagalur on Tuesday. But the incident came to light only on Wednesday, following which his body was retrieved.

The victim has been identified as Jagadish. A missing complaint was registered by his family with the Banaswadi police when he didn’t return home on Tuesday.

According to the police, Jagadish, a resident of Kariyannannapalya in Banaswadi, is a ninth standard student of a private school in Lingarajpuram. Jagadish, son of Narayanswamy, had left home to play cricket with his friends, the police said.

They said Jagadish and his six friends came to Bagalur to play cricket. They then decided to go for a swim to beat the heat. However, Jagadish didn’t know swimming and drowned. Scared, his friends fled the spot and returned home without informing anyone.

Meanwhile, Jagadish’s worried parents were frantically searching for him. When he didn’t return even late in the evening, they later filed a missing complaint with the Banaswadi police station.

On Wednesday early morning, Jagadish’s parents got to know he had accompanied his friends to swim. They tracked them down and took them to the police station, where Jagadish’s friends told the police he (Jagadish) had drowned. The Bagalur police have registered a case.
