A delegation of MPs, led by YSRC Parliamentary Party Leader Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, met Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi on Friday and sought immediate announcement of the new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act.
The separation of Waltair Division from East Coast Railway (E Co R) and formation of a new railway zone with Visakhapatnam as headquarters was a long pending demand.
He also said YSRC Visakhapatnam district president Gudiwada Amarnath had staged an indefinite fast, before being shifted to the hospital by the police.
The Railway Minister shook hands with Mr. Amarnath, who accompanied the delegation, but failed to give any assurance on the zone.
The other members of the delegation include: Botta Renuka, Vara Prasad and Mithun Reddy (MPs), former MLAs Golla Babu Rao and Karanam Dharmasri, party leaders Kola Guruvulu, Tippala Nagi Reddy, A. Adeep Raju and Pakki Divakar.
Mr. Amarnath said he was planning to stage a ‘padayatra’ from Anakapalle to Bheemunipatnam to motivate the people on the issue.
