Woman’s death: case booked against sailor

A case of death due to physical and mental harassment was registered against a man as his wife committed suicide.

G. Anita Kumar (28) had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at the Naval Quarters at Malkapuram on Friday evening. Malkapuram CI D. Kesava Rao said Anita had married Lakshmana Rao, Sailor in the Indian Navy, in 2015. The couple has an 18-month daughter. Though there was no harassment for dowry, the couple used to quarrel frequently over petty issues.

Anita had stayed with her parents for the last one-and-a-half years and returned to her husband’s home on February 26. The disputes started again. The Inspector said Anita’s mother-in-law was also harassing her as the first issue was a girl.

There were disputes between the couple after lunch on Tuesday.

After Lakshman Rao left for duty, Anita phoned her father to look after her daughter and said she was no longer willing to be a burden on them. They tried to convince her against taking any hasty decision.

Malkapuram Police are investigating the case.
