Up in arms: Human Rights organisations staging a protest in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

Taking strong exception of Justice A.K. Rupanwal Commission report on the Rohith Vemula suicide issue, the Human Rights group collectively staged a dharna at the Ambedkar statue here on Friday and demanded the report be withdrawn immediately. HRF general secretary V.S. Krishna said the report was nothing but a whitewash of the circumstances leading to the murder of Dalit scholar of University of Hyderabad Rohith Vemula.

Rohit had committed suicide on January 17, 2016, due to harassment by the university officials and activists of ABVP, and the commission had nullified all the claims by stating that it was an act of individual frustration, alleged Mr. Krishna.

K. Padma of Mahila Chetana said the report was baseless and one-sided.

“We demand immediate withdrawal of the report and seek an independent probe by the CBI,” said Ms. Padma.

Representatives of HRF, APCLC, Mahila Chetana, AMS and Chaitanya Mahila Sangam, participated.
