The wall that collapsed due to surge of the sea at Kursura Submarine Museum will be constructed by packing the soil first with boulders.
The wall collapsed in the first week of January 11 due to high spring tide.
“We have taken the view of experts of the Andhra University Engineering Department. They have suggested that the soil should be first packed with boulders and then reinforced with RCC for the construction of the wall,” VUDA Vice-Chairman N. Yuvaraj told The Hindu . VUDA maintains the prestigious Kursura Submarine Museum.
Boulders available with the VUDA while laying the Master Plan Road at Endada were sunk at the spot where the wall collapsed. However, more boulders are required.
Tenders will be called for it and priority given as safety at one of the major tourist attractions is involved.
The surge and the consequent erosion of the beach had surprised many as morning walkers are used to take a lap on the stretch behind the submarine museum.
Joint inspectionHowever, the wall has to be extended at other vulnerable points too. For this a joint inspection will be made along with the GVMC Commissioner as it is primarily the responsibility of civic body to maintain beach.
“After a joint inspection further steps and funding and if necessary, sharing the cost, will be discussed,” Dr. Yuvaraj said.
