The Visakhapatnam Port Trust as part of its CSR activities, will provide a hostel building to SAI on its Nehru Sports and Cultural Complex here. Work on the Rs. 6 crore building will commence soon and was expected to be completed in two years, said Chairman of VPT M.T. Krishna Babu during the valedictory function of the all-India major ports athletic championships at the Port stadium here on Thursday.
Though VPT like the other major public sector ports could not take up recruitment due to the Central Government‘s decision, it has provided a major boost to the sports infrastructure and the Port’s indoor and out-door stadium were considered as the best in Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Krishna Babu said.
Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer of VPT and working president of Visakhapatnam Port Sports Council P.V.V.P. Harihara Rao gave a report on the meet. Secretary to VPT and Member of Major Ports Sports Control Board D. Naresh Kumar, Sports Officer and secretary of VPSC M.V. Manikyalu, and Sports Officer Ch. Benerjee Babu were present.
Wife of Mr. Krishna Babu and President of port’s women’s welfare association Sarada Samajam, Ms. Padmavalli gave away the trophies and prizes.
VPSC felicitated a veteran athlete V. Narayanaswami of Chennai Port Trust, who will be retiring soon on superannuation.
