There is a need to increase the acceptance of private sector employment among the general public, Vice Chairman REECAP and Chairman REEMAP K.C. Reddy has said.
In the fast-growing economy there are job opportunities being created in the private sector and the youth should shed their inhibitions about employment there, the role of the government is shrinking and it cannot create jobs for all the educated unemployed youth, he said speaking on the sidelines of the Indian Economic Association here on Saturday.
The universities have to grow out of the traditional concept of education for knowledge building. They have to equip the students to earn a livelihood. After all the students are going to college only to learn something to get a job. The challenge for the universities is to change. The Government of AP has taken up a mission to make the unemployed employable by giving them market suited skills. In line with its commitment to the welfare of the poorest of the poor, more candidates from the SCs, STs, BCs and minorities are given preference in the training programmes. This in a way ensures that the private sector employs SCs and STs within the frame of Government policy of reservations. The skill development programme is designed basically for the people from the bottom of the pyramid, Prof KC Reddy explained.
The State government has been able to generate 2.5 lakh jobs in the private sector and trained the youth to make them employable, he said.
