TD mandal panel members in Agency quit

October 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

All members of the Telugu Desam Party’s mandal committee members from G.K. Veedhi, G. Madugula and Chintapalli on Wednesday resigned from the posts and party as well, after the banned CPI (Maoist) warned them of dire consequences, if they did not quit and join the movement against the bauxite mining proposed by the government in the Agency.

Three directors of Agriculture Market Committees of Paderu, G. Madugula and Chintapalli put in their papers.

While former Tribal Welfare Minister M. Manikumari resigned from the three-member committee of the party for the Paderu Assembly segment a few days ago, the Wednesday’s resignations followed the Maoist party’s fresh warning at a rally held on the Koyyuru-GK Veedhi border which was addressed by a Maoist leader Jambri on Tuesday.

The development came a day after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said here that the government was yet to take any decision on the proposed bauxite mining .

Advise sought

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam leaders from all the 11 mandals in the Vishakha Agency area are planning to meet their party leader and MLC Pappala Chalapathi Rao at Anakapalle or here to discuss the issue and seek his advice.

No clue on abduction

Meanwhile, the fate of the three abducted men--TDP mandal unit president Mamidi Balayya Padal, party senior leader Vandalam Balayya and district committee member Mukkala Mahesh-- is not known, leading to tension.

Balayya Padal is reportedly kept in the Odisha side of the border and the other two in the East Godavari Agency area.

However, there was an indication that they might be produced at a Praja court in a day or two and it would be the people to decide whether or not they deserved punishment.

Meanwhile, the Andhra-Odisha border in this district remained tense.

But, the security officials saw no connection between the kidnapping of the TDP men in Visakha Agency and the exchange of fire that took place between the police and Maoists in Saluru mandal bordering Odisha on Tuesday evening, a security officer said.

“Narayanpur area committee of the Maoists some time cross over to Vizianagaram district and this particular incident was due to some members of it coming across the special police parties.

Security has not been compromised and the forces have not lost grip over the area, he said.
