Residents of Gnanapuram, who have been agitating for 75 days for removal of two liquor shops in the area, on Monday submitted a representation to the Collector to take action for shifting the shops.
Stating that the shops were located in the vicinity of 15 educational institutions and five places of worship and the Missionaries of Charity Home, Fr. Ch. Raj Kumar, Parish Priest, urged the Collector to take steps to shift the shops.
As many as 15,000 girl students were attending the institutions passing by the shops where liquor was available round-the-clock and women were abused by the drunk. Crime was increasing and family life was disturbed with young and old thronging the shops alike, the residents said in their representation.
A representative map showing the location of the schools and places of worship was also submitted to the Collector.
On a representation to the Chief Justice of the High Court, the A P Legal Services Authority forwarded it to the Collector asking him to take appropriate action and report it to the Collector, Fr. Raj Kumar said.
