: Adding unique elements to the show and going the extra mile to stay away from the cookie cutter grooming modules is what makes fashion choreographer Arun Ratna stand out.
Even after 12 years of journey in the fashion industry and being part of a slew of national and international pageants, Arun Ratna feels that there is still a long way to go.
The Kerala-based fashion choreographer came to the city to train a team of finalists competing for ‘Mr n Miss Perfect – Andhra Pradesh 2016’ title. From a fashion designing student to a fashion choreographer, Arun Ratna talks about the journey that shot him to fame and future projects in an interview to The Hindu . “People keep following a particular style while choreographing. But I feel each show has to be different from the previous one. That’s why I focus on several elements while training models on stage, highlighting their plus points and hiding negative qualities. This apart, music and sequencing of the show play a significant part in any ramp walk,” he says.
Indicating that height plays a major role in the catwalk, Arun Ratna cautions aspiring models to be aware of their assignments before taking up any. He says, “It is always better to do substantial homework before venturing into any beauty pageant and give a complete picture of the itinerary to contestant’s parents.”
While he choreographed several pageants such as Miss. South India, Miss. India Spain, Miss. India UK and Miss. India Malaysia, the fashion choreographer aims to take the fashion scene to the next level by introducing new components to the field. “Very soon, I will be launching Junior Model International pageant for those aged between four and 16 years. It is a cultural exchange festival created exclusively for kids and will be held in Kochi in October,” he sums up before heading for a grooming session.
