Trains were halted for more than two hours near Sompeta due to damage to the railway track near Palavalasa of Sompeta mandal.
Fortunately, the trains did not get derailed with the prompt observation of the damage by local railway personnel. Railway authorities inspected the track for over 20 km after completion of the repairs on the track near Palavalasa.
Several trains including Kolkata-bound Falaknuma and others were allowed to continue their journey only after thorough verification of the track. The Railways arranged special teams to verify the possible damages in other places too with the heavy rainfall in the last two days in Srikakulam District.
Railway officials said this was due to the winter season and contraction of the rails was normal. The fish plates were replaced and track restored on a war-footing.
