Officials of the Road Transport Authority conducted raided offices of the private travel agents in the city on Monday and gathered information about their day-to-day transactions and collected data, as part of the State-wide raids conducted on private transport operators following the death of 30 passengers of a private bus from AP in an accident in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra a few days ago.
Four RTA officials and 20 staff members conducted the raids under the supervision of West Godavari Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao, who was appointed Special Officer for conduct of raids on the private travel agents in Visakhapatnam. The offices of 16 travel operators were raided at Seethammapeta, Rama Talkies and opposite RTC Complex.
The details of operations by the private transport operators for the last 15 days were gathered by the officials. Mr. Venkateswara Rao said that some of the operators were running branch offices without permission and violation of Motor Vehicle Rules were observed. He said that a report was sent the higher authorities in Hyderabad.
Regional Transport Officers of Visakhapatnam Vivekananda Reddy and Muralidhar and Motor Vehicle Inspectors A.H. Khan and Kanaka Raju participated in the raids.
The officials would inspect the private buses coming to the city from Hyderabad on Tuesday morning.
